Perched on the edge of a hill midway into the surrounding tree canopy, the sound of the river below is a constant presence. A steep switchback driveway passes between the house and garage. A cedar bridge leads from the driveway to the foyer, allowing drainage to pass below. The living areas and screened porch perch above the cascading river. Clad completely in knotty cedar, the house is in, and of, the woods, not unlike a treehouse. Cedar decks cling to the rear of the house, where a second bridge connects the screened porch to the edge of the hill. Once inside, corner windows expand the views outward on this compressed site. The lively interior includes variegated bamboo flooring, laminated pine stairs, tension cable guardrails, a colorful kitchen, and a Japanese style soaking tub. Assembly on the challenging site was expedited through the use of pre-fabricated wall panels set in place by crane. The sounds and sights of the surrounding forest are ever-present within.
